Accident Prevention, Reporting & Investigation

What is the guide for?

The ‘Accident Prevention, Reporting & Investigation’ guide is a guide for contractors to use to help you identify what an accident is and to ensure you understand the importance of accident prevention, how to do this and understand what control measures you can put in place to minimise accidents on site.

The guide also gives essential information on the RIDDOR Regulations, the importance of reporting accidents and incidents and examples of what RIDDOR reportable accidents or incidents are.

Finally, the guide also provides you with useful knowledge and steps on how to properly conduct an accident investigation, which helps you to learn the reasons why accidents occur and how to prevent them in the future.

What we can do for you

Here at The OM Group, we have a group of highly experienced Health, Safety & CDM Consultants. Almost 100% of our new and returning clients are within the construction industry, in which we act as either Principal Designer, Client Safety Advisor, Contractor Safety Advisor or acting as the company’s competent Health & Safety Advisor. Our consultants have vast knowledge of construction site issues and regularly carry out site inspections and audits to ensure the sites are compliant with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, along with reviewing and completing the wide range of documents that are required for health and safety compliance.

We are also an approved training provider and training centre, where we offer a range of approved training courses.

There are many things we can do to help you in keeping you, your site and operatives safe.

In terms of helping you to prevent an accident, we can come out to site and complete a Site Inspection in which you’ll get a detailed report along with recommendations. We do this so that we can check you have everything in place that you should, and you can have that peace of mind that operatives are doing what they should be.

We can review and complete your documents such as your Risk Assessments and Method Statements and Health and Safety Policy to make sure they contain all the information they need.

We can write and provide you with a bespoke Toolbox Talk pack, which you can use to keep your operatives up to date with key site and safety information.

Accident Reporting and Investigation can be confusing, especially if it’s something that is new to you, you don’t do very often or the HSE get involved. We can provide you with advice and support by letting you know whether you need to report the accident or incident under RIDDOR. We can also come out to compete an accident investigation and deal with authorities on your behalf.

Also, if you find that you or your operatives need any further training in areas of health and safety, we run several courses at our office and can also come out to you to make sure your training is complete and up to date.
